A damp fireplace or ceiling stain near a chimney can leave you unsure whether to call a roofer or a masonry contractor. Golden Master provides both roofing and chimney work, making it easier to discuss the chimney and its surrounding roof as one project.

Follow the leak from the room to the roof

01

Tell us when it happens

Does the stain appear during every rain, after wind-driven storms or when snow melts? Is the fireplace damp, or is the mark farther across the ceiling? These observations help plan the assessment; they do not replace an on-site examination.

02

Review the exposed details

The repair may involve the roof flashing, chimney top, cap, chase cover or masonry. We look at the areas relevant to your concern and explain what should be addressed. If the source remains uncertain, further investigation may be needed before a final repair scope can be confirmed.

03

Repair and protect appropriately

A proposal may include renewed flashing, crown repairs, repointing or damaged brick replacement. Where suitable, masonry water-repellent treatment can be discussed as part of the plan. It should not be treated as a substitute for repairing defective components.

Before you book

Keep a few dated photos of the staining and note the weather when it appears. Share previous repair invoices if available. This is especially helpful when the same area has been patched more than once. Ask which roof and chimney items are included in the estimate and which interior finishes will need separate attention.

Common questions

Can a new cap fix a chimney leak?

It can address an exposed flue opening when that is the problem. It does not repair damaged flashing, open masonry joints or a defective crown. The appropriate work depends on the entry point.

Should I paint the chimney to stop water?

Ask for an assessment before adding a coating. The materials and condition of the chimney should guide whether any treatment is appropriate and what repairs are needed first.

Can you quote from a photograph?

Photos help us understand the concern and plan a visit. Roof access and the condition of adjoining components can affect the final scope and price.
